How to Track Your Mail Ballot

Ensure your ballot was received & accepted by the elections office

1. Visit the MT Secretary of State's My Voter Page & log in.

To log-in, enter your first name, last name, and date of birth.

You'll need to type in your name without spaces or punctuation.

2. Scroll down to the Absentee/Mail Ballot Tracking section.

First, check the line that says Date Ballot Received. If the line says "No", your county has not yet received your ballot. If you recently mailed your ballot, remember that mail can take roughly a week to arrive in some communities.

If you mailed your ballot more than a week ago, but your ballot is not showing as received, call your county elections office.

If there is a date entered on that line, move on to Step 3.

3. Check the "Status of Ballot" line.

If it says ACCEPTED, congratulations! You have successfully voted. Take a moment to sit back and relax. Then, make sure to share this information with your family and friends.

If it says REJECTED, don’t be alarmed. This happens occasionally - usually if you forgot to sign the exterior envelope or if the signature on the envelope did not match what the county had on file.

Resolving this issue is simple - see the next step for instructions on how to cure your rejected ballot.

4. (If necessary) Cure your rejected ballot.

If your ballot was rejected, you will likely need to submit a form called a "Ballot Rejection Notice" to your county elections office along with a copy of your ID. These forms can be submitted by in-person or by mail, fax, or email. We recommend calling your county elections administrator to confirm this and ask any questions you may have.

If you have a rejected ballot, you must submit the necessary documentation by 5pm on the Wednesday following Election Day in order for your vote to be counted.
